Despite hitting season-low audience numbers, a delayed episode of American Idol was still a nuisance for Thursday’s nights staples.

  • (7.1/19 in 18-49) raised 20.7 million viewers.
  • (12.3 million, 4.0/11) took a 1.4 million hit.
  • (6.8 million, 1.9/5) lost 900,000.
  • NBC’s Kung Fu Panda special (1.4/4) entertained 4 million; (3.4 million, 1.5/4) plummeted by 1.7 million.
  • * (2.1 million, 0.7/2) was down a few notches.

Thursday Ratings: ABC Remains Strong Against CBS

ABC’s crossover experiment paid off big time yesterday. Despite an all-new lineup on CBS (and the season premiere of Survivor), the Alphabet network finished the night with a win in the demos. CBS, though, did place first with the viewers.

  • (4.4/13 in 18-49) kicked things off with 13.8 million.
  • (7.4 million, 2.3/6) did about the same.
  • (6.3 million, 2.6/8) was up a smidge; (5.5 million, 2.4/6) picked up 800,000.
  • ‘s coverage of the 40th NAACP Image Awards (1.4/4) drew in 4.2 million.
  • * (2.4 million, 0.9/3) was off by 1.5 million.

Last January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was considered a pleasant distraction from all the writers’ strike business. Since the actors now face their own work stoppage, this year’s event once again served as a nice diversion.

With the Academy Awards less than a month away, tonight’s ceremony gave us a better idea of how that broadcast might pan out. Was Kate Winslet another double-winner this evening? Thursday Ratings: CSI’s Loss is Anatomy’s Gain

William Petersen’s departure from CSI brought the show’s numbers back to Earth. As a result, the Alphabet network had the best demos of the evening. Unfortunately, ABC’s lucky streak probably won’t last long. We’re now just weeks away from the premiere of Survivor: Tocantins.
